Whew! It was just a few minutes ago that Whisker Life reached 5,000 page likes. I’m blown away. In just a few hours, it will be August 3rd, and I will officially launch my book, RYKO to the world.
For free, of course. But… not how or for how long as I was planning on. . .
So here’s the thing. I’ve learned a lot of tough lessons getting Whisker Life up and running and also my book. Oh my book. . .
If you have been following along my previous posts, you will be surprised to know that I had to re-do my entire book after it had already been sent to the printer. That is what I have been spending so much time on over the past several days.
Come to find out, the editor I hired did not do one single thing. My book was a mess. Thankfully, a friend read the book and sent back well over 100 errors that I needed to fix. It was a mad rush to get that completed (it took me a good 14 hours to fix everything) and then I had to go back to the designer to get the book created again for print and Kindle. Oh, and I needed a new cover because the page count changed.
Whew. Enough of that though. My book struggles are finally behind me. And I am happy to announce that tomorrow is the day that my book goes live. . . But not the way I wanted.
My plan was to give my book away for free for the entire month of August. I wanted to make the Kindle version and audio book free and charge the minimum I was allowed on my print book.
Come to find out, the book and audiobook world doesn’t allow that. The most I can do is 5 days free for the Kindle version.
So that’s what I’m going to do – and I’m going to do it with a huge smile on my face. I’m so grateful for this experience because it will make publishing the other books I want to write so much easier.
I think I learned everything the hard way here, but that’s OK. Sometimes that happens in life and we just need to dust ourselves off and keep pushing forward on our journey. Plus, I hope that you are able to learn something from all of my mistakes. I know it is not normal and maybe strange that a brand new company is being so transparent with the struggles.
But I believe it is the struggles (and who we need to be to overcome them) that make us who we are today. Some may not like that I am so transparent and think I should only post about happy things. (This is a true story.) Personally, I believe that everyone should share their journey because it can help others on theirs. Much more on this soon. . .
So back to the 5,000 Facebook likes. I’m blown away how quickly the Whisker Life Facebook page has grown.
But I’m even more blown away by the outpour of love and support. I’m so grateful for all of it.
I’ll admit, there have been many days where not too much went right. So at the end of the day, I’d go onto my Facebook page and read comments and look at photos of other cats. And each and every single time, I felt happy, loved, and I had a huge smile on my face when I looked at them.
So if you are someone who happens to like my Whisker Life page on Facebook, thank you. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
I have a mountain of work to do tonight to get ready for tomorrow. . .
If all goes well (and I am confident that it will), you will see a post from me on Facebook announcing my book is live and information on how to get it for free.
I hope you like it.
Back to work.
Edit: August 3 12:11 AM. . . Come to find out Amazon makes you wait 24 hours after a book is live before you can run a free 5-day promotion. Lesson #981 I have learned during this whole process. Who would have known? So it looks like it will be Sunday. But that’s OK. I’ve been planning on an August 3rd launch for weeks and missing it by one day is OK with me. I’m sure everyone will understand. I hope so anyway!
